Fluffy, furry Fido, man’s best friend was the main attraction at the Super Pet Expo in Edison, NJ, this past weekend.
The Pear Tree Project eagerly explored the exposition floor and mingled amongst mixed company – (Dachshunds, Huskies, German Shepherds and Poodles).
The obligatory meet, greet, pet and repeat took place at regular intervals throughout the day. The four legged loyalists bowed their heads, wagged their tails and dutifully submitted to the gentle pats and high pitched praises of the casual passersby.
The opportunity to meet a gentle giant, 180 pound Great Dane, Duke, delighted and excited us. He welcomed the attention and simply turned his head when he had enough. A 230-pound Mastiff also spurred curiosity, questions and amazement. The proud owners of this dog quickly informed inquisitive folks, “we have another one at home.”
As part of the scheduled programming, Dachshunds, Corgis and other small breeds raced across the finish line in hopes of tasty treats. The Doggie Derby went off without a hitch.
Did someone say doggie ball pit? Yes, and for the lonely, the opportunity to socialize on the off-leash puppy playground was readily available and accessible to all.
How about a professionally curated action shot of your dog running, leaping high into the air, and chasing his toy lure. This event was a crowd pleaser!

This event could not have been complete without the presence of local rescue organizations and heart captivating adoptable animals. A piece of our very hearts remained with a sphinx like black pooch named Mia.
Some of the rescue organizations present at this event were: Broken Souls Rescue and Recovery, Eleventh Hour Rescue, Garden State Animal Rescue Center, German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue of NJ, Heart and Soul Dog Rescue, Inc., Good Karma Dog Rescue, Jersey Animal Welfare Society and Second Chance for Animals.
If reptiles were more your speed, there were experts present to educate, advise and guide on everything from the perfect low maintenance reptilian creature for you, to creating an optimal environment for your best bud.
The Super Pet Expo had something for everyone, not just pet owners. On a more practical note, there were offerings and services catering to homeowners. Let’s face it, part of being a responsible furry parent is providing a safe home for your little one.
The list of vendors eager to support a healthy safe environment for your pet and family was substantial, here are just a few: LeafFilter Gutter Protection, Acre Windows & Doors, and Corbin Electrical Services, Inc.
The Pear Tree Project attended this event to learn, network and expand its audience. In the end, we met some fine people, but we all know our four-legged friends reigned supreme!
Did You Know? The American Kennel Club (AKC) only recognizes 195 breeds, while the Federation Cynologique International (FCI) recognizes 360 breeds officially. Then, there are all the experimental breeds. So there is not an exact, worldwide, internationally agreed-upon number, but it would be safe to say there are anywhere between 195 and 500 dog breeds in the world.
